i. The whole system is accelerating with an acceleration of 2 ms-2. Consider block B By Newton's 2nd law of motion mBg - T = mBa (8)(10) - T = (8)(2) Tension in the string, T = 64 N b. Let f be the frictional force between block A and the inclined plane. As block A is moving up the plane, the frictional force is acting in the direction down the plane. Hence, by Newton's 2nd law of motion, T - mAgsin30* - f = mAa 64 - (5)(10)sin30* - f = (5)(2) f = 29 N
